We have over thirty name generators on this site alone. The chat lets you skip the browsing. Describe what you're after in simple English, and it'll find the right generator for you. It's much quicker than clicking through pages.

How it works

There's a text box at the top of the page. Type something in; names come out. The chat works out which of our generators fits your request, so you don't have to know whether what you want is technically a "character name" or a "fantasy name" or something else entirely. A few words is all it needs. "Scary villain name" will do. So will "cute name for a rabbit."

What people actually ask for

Gaming names account for a significant portion of requests, usually from someone who's been frozen on a character creation screen long enough to start questioning their life choices. D&D names are popular. Baby names, surprisingly, also popular - though the two groups probably (hopefully?) don't overlap much.

Beyond that: band names, pet names, usernames, Instagram handles, business names, pen names, villain names, and the occasional request that defies categorisation entirely. Some real examples:

Why Name Generator Chat?

Convenience and familiarity. People are used to using AI chatbot such as ChatGPT for a wide range of needs, so we've written you an interface that looks like an AI engine but walks like a name generator. It's streamlined for serving names only, so does not use unnecessary quantities of carbon for inference. We're a more eco-friendly way to generate names that LLMs.

Getting better results

Short requests work best. 3-5 words is plenty. The chat isn't trying to have a conversation with youl it's trying to match you to the right generator, so give it something clear and it'll do the rest.

If the names aren't right, rephrase and try again. "Dark elf name" and "evil elf name" will pull up different results. A single word can shift things considerably. Failing that, we'll try and direct you to the most appropriate old school generator.
